Madagascar Hissing CockroachThe Madagascar hissing cockroach is native only to the island of Madagascar, off the east coast of Africa.  The males and females of this insect possess a breathing port on the side of their body, which produces the “hissing” sound when they force air through it during mating, fighting or when they are disturbed. This cockroach is also one of the rare ovoviviparous species of roaches, which produce eggs that hatch within the females body.
