Eastern tiger salamanders are the largest salamander in Michigan and can be found statewide in woodlands, meadows, marshes and even your backyard. Their color can be brown, black or olive, with scattered yellow or brownish blotches. They spend most of their life underground, but breed and lay their eggs in ponds and wetlands.
These amphibians are very sensitive to changes in their surroundings and are threatened by loss of habitat and contamination due to farm and lawn chemicals.
