BROWNIE – LEGACY – BUGS
Investigate the world of bugs with us by studying insects that live inside the Nature Center and others that live outside.
TIME: 1½ hours, COST: $4, $5 if Butterfly House included
Learn how to get ready and interpret a trail map. Then we’ll be off to explore Sarett’s hiking trails.
TIME: 1½ hours, COST: $4, BRING: Appropriate footwear
Scouts can explore human senses and then compare them to animal senses with a variety of activities.
TIME: 1 ½ hours, COST: $4
BROWNIE – SKILL BUILDER – A WORLD OF GIRLS – LETTERBOXER
Prepare and go on an outdoor treasure hunt. Scouts will prepare supplies, practice hiding a box and hunt for Sarett’s letterbox.
TIME: 1 ½ hours, COST: $5
Investigate forest management by learning to identify native trees, do tree calculations, and create a “plan” to manage pests.
TIME: 2 hours, COST: $4, BRING: Appropriate footwear
Requirements covered: 1,4
Develop planning checklists for different types of treks. Plan a short “trek” at the nature center to practice navigation skills.
TIME: 2 hours, COST: $5, BRING: Appropriate footwear
Learn basic woodworking skills and construct a birdhouse. NOTE: Class size is limited to 8 scouts. Call Jim (921-0437) to set up class.
TIME: 2 hours, COST: $25 (includes building materials), BRING: Closed toe shoes, hair tied back

Learn about then search for nocturnal animals on a night hike through the woods.
TIME: 2 hours, COST: $4, BRING: Appropriate footwear, flashlight
Learn how to use Sarett’s GPS receivers then participate in the popular outdoor treasure hunt. The Nature Center will provide 27 units.
TIME: 3 hours, COST: $6, BRING: Appropriate footwear
Scouts will investigate flower parts, how flowers were used in the past and begin a flower identification journal.
TIME: 1½ hours, COST: $4, BRING: Appropriate footwear, small sketchbook or drawing paper, pencil
Scouts will learn about the use of native plants in gardens, learn about seed dispersal and assist with garden maintenance.
TIME: 1½ hours, COST: $4, BRING: Appropriate footwear, garden gloves
Use Sarett’s GPS receivers to plan for and participate in the popular outdoor treasure hunt. The nature center will provide up to 27 units.
TIME: 3 hours, COST: $6
Investigate some of Sarett’s animals and their habitats, including an endangered wetland and its threatened inhabitants.
TIME: 1 ½ hours, COST: $5
Scouts can hone their photography skills using Sarett’s animals and limitless opportunities for natural photos. Completes requirements 1 and 2 and part of 3.
