Annual Meeting of the Membership

Sarett’s Spring Birding Bunch

May 5, Saturday, 8:00 am  SARETT’S SPRING BIRDING BUNCH. Welcome back the spring migrants with Sarett’s annual Saturday morning birding bunch. These gatherings are designed for birders of all levels.  Each session will start at the nature center and then travel to where the birds are the best. Bring your binoculars and a desire to learn about and see birds. We will meet May 5, 26, &  June 9. $7/non-member, $6/member. Call to register 927-4832.

Butterfly House Volunteer Training for the Public

May 10, Thursday, 10:00 am VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. Join us for a training day for anyone who would like to help with the Butterfly House. We’ll learn about the butterflies, the butterfly house and gardens and how you can help with this exciting exhibit for school groups or weekend visitation during the summer. Berrien County Annual Birdathon

May 19, Saturday, All Day, BERRIEN COUNTY’S ANNUAL BIRDATHON. Birdwatchers from all over Michigan will spend the day searching to see as many bird species as possible. Teams from Sarett will be trying their skill and luck. This event has become a very important fundraiser for the nature center. Each team’s members find sponsors who pledge for each species seen that day. If you would like to sponsor a team, please call Sarett. If you would like to join a team or form your own team, please give us a call.

Sarett’s Native Wildflower Sale

Join us Saturday, May 26 or Sunday, May 27 at the Nature Center for our annual native plant sale. We will be selling many different species of plants for your garden to bring color and help our native wildlife! Native plants are easier to care for and bring wonderful color and wildlife to your yard. Shop early for the best selection. Sarett will continue to sell plants after the weekend during regular business hours.

Explore Michigan at the Portman Preserve

June 1, Friday, 1:00 pm EXPLORE MICHIGAN—PORTMAN PRESERVE. Explore this Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy nature preserve with Nate Fuller. SWMLC protects 190 acres of high quality prairie fen, wetlands, savanna, and woodland habitats. This area also has three lakes, nine creeks, and several natural springs. The Portman Preserve is home to rare, threatened, and endangered plant and animals. It also forms part of the headwaters of the Paw Paw River. Kayak the Kalamazoo River

June 2, Saturday, 10:00 am KAYAK THE KALAMAZOO RIVER. We will be paddling from the dam to the pipeline. Includes two naturalist guides, kayak, transportation, life vest, and paddle.
